A movie studio founded on the mission of producing more family-friendly entertainment and amplifying “light” cracked Hollywood’s Top 10 in total box office gross in 2025.

Angel Studios landed at No. 10 among top-grossing distributors in 2025 on the strength of films such as The King of Kings, David, and The Last Rodeo, underscoring that the market for family movies with inspiring content is both viable and growing. Last year, Angel was No. 14.

Angel Studios first became widely known for its early role in distributing The Chosen but has since expanded into feature films and series, seeking to distribute titles that promote ideals that are “true, honest, noble, just, authentic, lovely, admirable, and excellent,” according to its website. Angel operates its own streaming service.

The $161.8 million in total gross for its 2025 movies topped Amazon MGM Studios ($123.5 million) and trailed ninth-place Focus Features ($212.7 million), according to data compiled by The Numbers. Disney ($1.9 billion), Warner Bros. ($1.8 billion), and Universal ($1.5 billion) topped the chart.

Angel’s Top 10 finish coincided with another milestone: its surpassing of 2 million paying Guild members. The Guild is Angel’s membership community that greenlights projects.

“Reaching 2 million Guild members is a validation of our audience-centric model and the values-driven stories we champion,” said Neal Harmon, co-founder and CEO of Angel. “Strong collaboration between the Guild and our filmmaker partners is our creative engine, and this growth demonstrates that our members want to participate in directly shaping the entertainment they enjoy. As we expand our slate, we are focused on distributing films and television series that earn exceptionally high audience satisfaction, in theaters and on the Angel platform.”

It’s not the first time Angel Studios has landed in the Top 10 – it ranked No. 8 in 2022 – but it may be its most impressive year yet. Angel’s 2022 showing was driven almost entirely by Sound of Freedom, which grossed $184.1 million and stood as the studio’s lone release to surpass $15 million that year. This year, three films cleared that threshold, with two – The King of Kings and David – topping $50 million. Angel released more than twice as many movies in 2025 (nine) as it did in 2022 (4). The company went public in 2025.

Its other 2025 releases included Skeetch, Homestead, and The Senior.

“Unfortunately, most shows offered these days add to the cynicism, division, and darkness so pervasive in society,” its website says, referencing the broader market. “Fortunately, darkness and light, hope and despair, cannot exist in the same place at the same time. And we believe if we build a home for creators and communities to connect, specifically those who align with our North Star, Angel will become known for fulfilling our universal human need for hope and light. Our time feels short. Choosing, funding, creating, and spreading stories that matter has never felt more urgent.”
