James Corden Says Paul McCartney Almost Backed Out Of “Carpool Karaoke”

Remember Paul McCartney’s epic appearance on the “Late Late Show” segment “Carpool Karaoke”? It was such a hit that they couldn’t help but air hour-long special edition the next month – plus, the segment was credited with helping Paul get his first-ever number one US album with “Egypt Station.”

Well, it turns out the 2018 collab almost didn’t happen. In a new interview, host James Corden says Paul almost backed out of “Carpool Karaoke”.... not once, but several times. First he got a call that Paul got “cold feet” about shooting in Liverpool, but he was back on two weeks later… until an email came in that Paul “changed his mind” around a week before shooting.

How’d Corden land the appearance after all? He emailed Paul directly, pointing out – with “respect” – that the show had invested time and money into the segment already and “couldn’t sustain the losses,” guaranteeing to the Beatle that it’d be a “great” time. Paul ended up signing back on, and it turned out he was actually just nervous about going back to his childhood house, which he hadn’t visited since he had left.
