Mariah Carey Loses Bid to Trademark "Queen of Christmas”

Looks like Mariah Carey will have to settle for an unofficial title, as her bid to trademark her nickname “Queen of Christmas” has been denied.
And this isn’t the only nickname she tried - if their issue was the monarch, she was happy to settle for “Princess Christmas” or “Christmas Princess.” But the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board has said no to MC’s reign.
This may be due in part to some major backlash, including an opposition filed by singer Elizabeth Chan. Chan argued that it was wrong to “monopolize” the word “Christmas,” especially since Carey only wanted the title for branded merch. In her filing, she wrote that she intended to slap the title on all sorts of holiday goodies for fans.
Chan told TMZ, “Christmas is a season of giving, not the season of taking, and it is wrong for an individual to attempt to own and monopolize a nickname like Queen of Christmas for the purposes of abject materialism."
