Patti Smith Covers "She's Leaving Home" At Paul McCartney Tribute

As we told you yesterday, the stars came out to honor Sir Paul McCartney on Wednesday at Carnegie Hall. Among those who performed were Heart’s Nancy Wilson, Lyle Lovett and Bruce Hornsby.

But the night’s biggest surprise came from an unscheduled guest: early punk rocker Patti Smith. Attendees report Smith brought the house down with a poignant rendition of “She’s Leaving Home.” The singer even is said to have added a verse to the 1967 Beatles’ classic from “the perspective of the young girl who runs away from home.”

You can check out Smith’s performance of “She’s Leaving Home” on the right.
