Bono is ready to tell his story, and give fans some insight into U2’s music. The singer is set to release his memoir, “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,” dropping November 1st.
The book will have Bono recounting his life growing up in Dublin, as well as his humanitarian work and more. Each of the 40 chapters of the book will be named after a different U2 song, with personal drawings Bono created for the book.
“When I started to write this book, I was hoping to draw in detail what I’d previously only sketched in songs,” he sharers. “The people, places, and possibilities in my life,” noting, “Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me. Growing up in Ireland in the seventies with my fists up (musically speaking), it was not a natural concept. A word I only circled until I gathered my thoughts for the book.”
He adds, “I am still grappling with this most humbling of commands. In the band, in my marriage, in my faith, in my life as an activist. Surrender is the story of one pilgrim’s lack of progress… With a fair amount of fun along the way.” Check out an excerpt from the chapter “Out Of Control” to the right.
