Legendary performer and producer Nile Rodgers now has an asteroid named after him. In honor of his 70th birthday earlier this month, the asteroid, traveling through space in an orbit between Mars and Jupiter, is now known as “Nilerodgers (191911).”

Nile’s partner Nancy Hunt and their friend Simon Lowery, who works for the European Southern Observatory, revealed the special honor to Nile last week, along with a certificate from the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

“When you think about movies that you’ve seen in the past, and they talked about, ‘We just saw an asteroid and we think that it’s on a trajectory with whatever … oh, that asteroid is Nilerodgers!'” he says. “‘Oh, my God, it’s gonna be a direct collision with …’ It’s just so crazy. It’s so … out of this world.”

The asteroid was actually discovered back in April, 2005, and apparently the person who discovered it was happy Nile was picked for the naming honor, because it turns out he was a Chic fan.
