Billy Joel Releases Live Video From Upcoming Live LP

Billy Joel is giving us a preview of the goodies in his upcoming box set, “The Vinyl Collection, Vol. 1.” He’s shared a video for a cut from the collections unreleased live album, “Live at the Great American Music Hall – 1975.”
The live rendition of “New York State Of Mind” predates the version that’d be recorded for 1976’s “Turnstiles.” It’s a little quicker than the studio version, with a slightly different version of the lyrics towards the end.
“We rehearsed the song and played it at the show one of the first times it was ever performed live, before it was recorded for the album,” recalls engineer Brian Ruggles. “Billy liked the arrangement, so they recorded it that way on the album.”
