For their second to last performance of their six-show residence at Wembley Stadium in London, Coldplay treated the crowd to some fun covers. During their Saturday night set, the group welcomed a unique trio made up of musicians Jacob Collier and Nicole Lawrence and actor Steve Coogan (appearing as his talk show host character Alan Partridge) to perform with them.
Along with hits like “Yellow,” “Viva La Vida” and “Clocks,” Coldplay covered some classics from other bands with help from the trio. Collier, Lawrence and Partridge joined in to play ABBA’s “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to being featured in the latest season of “Stranger Things.”
Simon Pegg also took the stage to join Coldplay in performing “A Sky Full of Stars,” where Chris Martin introduced the actor as “the world’s number one tambourine player.” These surprise performers were just the latest to hit the stage with Coldplay during their Wembley Stadium shows. Craig David also performed with them last week, as did Natalie Imbruglia, who paid tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John by covering “Summer Nights” from “Grease” with Martin.
