David Bowie's is the latest artist catalog to be sold. The late singer’s estate has sold the rights to his catalog to Warner Chappell, the publishing arm of Warner Music Group.
The deal, reportedly worth $250 million, gives the company the rights to all of Bowie’s music, including songs from his 26 studio albums, tunes he wrote for his band Tin Machine, and any soundtrack contributions.
“All of us at Warner Chappell are immensely proud that the David Bowie estate has chosen us to be the caretakers of one of the most groundbreaking, influential, and enduring catalogs in music history,” WCM Co-Chair and CEO Guy Moot, says. “These are not only extraordinary songs, but milestones that have changed the course of modern music forever,” adding, “We are looking forward to tending his unparalleled body of songs with passion and care as we strive to build on the legacy of this most extraordinary human being."
