As we previously told you, Eric Clapton successfully won a lawsuit against a woman who was selling an $11 bootleg of one of his live concerts, leaving the woman to pay legal fees of both parties, to tune of about $3,500. Well, Eric was getting a lot of backlash about it in the press and on social media, and he’s now defending himself.

“Eric Clapton like many other recording artists retains the use of lawyers to protect his worldwide copyrights. This usually involves the use of a "Cease and Desist" letter and the matter goes no further,” reads a post on his Instagam. “In the case of the much publicized bootleg lawsuit in Germany, the individual chose to take the matter to court with the following statement sent to the lawyers: ‘feel free to file a lawsuit if you insist on the demands.’”

The post insists the woman was advised by a judge not to pursue the matter in court but she did and lost. The post adds, “She was ordered to pay the court costs and fees of all parties,” noting, “Eric Clapton was not personally involved, and does not intend to collect the costs awarded to him by the court.”
