Last year, a TikTok video of Nathan Apodaca skateboarding to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” while drinking Ocean Spray went viral. In fact, it was popular enough that Ocean Spray gave him a new truck full of their drink. Now, Apodaca is trying to cash in on the newest cryptocurrency craze by selling the video as an NFT.
Non-Fungible Tokens allow creators to sell the rights to their works, which leads to a bit of a twist in the story. The video he’s putting up for sale is only the video of him on the skateboard; no “Dreams” in the background, and the Ocean Spray logo blurred out, since he doesn’t own the rights to those.
While it seems most of the fun of the original clip is now gone, this hasn’t stopped Apodaca from putting an asking price of $500,000 dollars on the NFT for the clip. If you’re interested in owning a stripped-down version of an Internet sensation, it goes on sale tomorrow at Rarible.
