Bob Weir is showing his support for independent venues in the San Francisco Bay Area struggling amid coronavirus. The Grateful Dead co-founder appeared at a Zoom press conference yesterday, alongside Congressman Mike Thompson, Blue Note Records honcho Don Was and more in support of the $10-billion Save Our Stages Act.

The bill – which would help provide grants for independent music venues – has yet to move forward in Congress, although it’s gotten a lot of support – including from Thompson. Speaking at the Zoom conference, Weir said the number of people involved in the industry is “endless,” and they need support.

“We need help from the government,” Weir said. “And I’d like to point out that music crosses party lines. Everybody needs music. I’ll leave it at that. Everybody needs music.”
