After Gene Simmons of KISS declared that “rock is finally dead” in 2014, several of his fellow rockers have come forward to say that he’s wrong, and the latest is Joe Perry. He was asked if rock was dead in a recent interview and said, “No, not at all.” He didn’t leave it at that, either.
“There are some great rock’n’roll bands carrying the flag,” with one example he gave being Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, a band that features Graham Whitford, the son of Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford.
Perry says that “The issue is that there aren’t enough fans to hear it, so it’s only going to go so far,” but says it’s the same as it was during the ‘60s. He credits fans for rock’s long-lasting success, while Simmons said recently that it was the fans who killed rock music.
