John Oates has released a new version of one of Hall & Oates’ classic hits. And he’s done it in a way that might surprise you.

“I tried to approach the reggae version of ‘Maneater’ as if I was a new artist, as if I was not associated with Hall & Oates in any way,” wrote Oates in a statement. “I wanted to see if I could reimagine it in a way that would make it fresh again and really work with the vibe of the players who were in that were in the studio in Jamaica.”

After recently revealing the OG version was inspired by a trip Oates took to Jamaice in the 80s, Oates said fans’ response was “overwhelming.” This lead him to create a fully-reggae version of “Maneater." This is the newest single release from Oates, who’s also recently dropped original songs like “Disconnected” and covers like “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.
