For fans of iconic classic rock band Steely Dan, it must feel like Christmas in June. Following the recent re-emergence of a rare appearance by the band on “The Midnight Special” in 1973, another lost gem of the band’s has resurfaced.
“Second Arrangement,” a song recorded by the band that (literally) vanished overnight, has been found. The legend has it that when the band arrived at the studio the day after recording everything but a horn track and “a fade,” the group realized a studio tech had accidentally erased the song. And Steely Dan was never satisfied with any efforts to re-record.
But, following the death of engineer Roger Nichols, a tape of the song has been found. Nichols reportedly brought a cassette of it home with him that fateful evening. As of now, there’s no word on what surviving member Donald Fagen wants to do with the rediscovered track.
