"The Library of Congress" has recovered and is making public about a half hour worth of footage at the Altamont concert that includes The Rolling Stones. Other artists seen in the footage are the Flying Burrito Brothers, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and more. This find is a big deal, as "The Library of Congress" acquired about 200,000 reels of film 20 years ago.
The footage does not have any sound to it. It also looks like it was filmed by an amateur and not by the doc crew that was there filming (whose footage was in the film "Gimme Shelter). For the scenes that show the stones's performance, it is dark and murky as it was a nighttime performance. The footage does show lots of crowd shots.
The concert did go down in history as an audience member was stabbed during the Stones' set. There is nothing in this new uncovered footage related to that.
