“O-o-h Child” Singer James Burke Has Died

Singer James Burke, singer of the 70s group The Five Stairsteps, has passed away at the age of 70. According to his brother and bandmate, Dennis Burke, James died after battling pneumonia.
The Five Stairsteps are best known for their 1970 hit “O-o-h Child,” the band’s only song to land in the Top Ten, peaking at eight. They did have other hits though, with 11 singles making into the R&B top 20.
“O-o-h Child” has been such a hit, it’s been covered by many artists, including Nina Simone, Daryl Hall & John Oats, Dusty Springfield, Mary Wilson and more. Most recently it was featured on the 2014 soundtrack to “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
