Paul McCartney is clearing up some “misconceptions” about The Beatles’ breakup… including why he sued the band. Speaking to “British GQ,” McCartney says that even “families argue [and] have disputes.”
At the time of the Fab Four’s 1970 breakup, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr wanted to appoint Allan Klein as their manager… but McCartney wasn’t down, calling Klein a “f**king idiot.” McCartney says “the only way” for him to “save The Beatles” and release “all these great remasters” was to sue… but he couldn’t just sue Klein, he had to sue to band.
“If I hadn’t done that, it would have all belonged to Allen Klein, the only way I given to get us out of that was to do what I did,” he adds. “There was no way I was going to work that hard for all my life and see it all vanish in a puff of smoke.”
