A lineup of A-list performers has signed on to pay tribute to Joe Strummer and The Clash on Friday, which would have been Strummer's 68th birthday.
The special livestream, “A Song for Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer,” organized and produced by Jesse Malin, will feature appearances and performances by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Weir, Lucinda Wiliams, Josh Homme, Tom Morello, Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon and more. In addition to the new performances, the livestream will also feature never-before-seen live footage of Strummer.
“To see so many musicians and artists come forward to honor Joe is really touching,” Lucinda Tait, Strummer’s wife, shared in a statement. “Community was always important to him…Even though we can’t all be in the same room together, I could not think of a better way for us all to feel united. Joe would have loved this.”
- Other artists set for the livestream, which kicks off at 3 pm ET, include: The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. and Nikolai Fraiture, The Pogues’ Spider Stacy, Bad Brains’ HR, and Dhani Harrison. In addition, Jim Jarmusch, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Shepard Fairey, and politician Beto O’Rourke are expected to make an appearance.
