Aretha Franklin’s Funeral is Today

Funeral services for Aretha Franklin will be held today at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, and she will be laid to rest alongside her father Rev. C.L. Franklin, brother Cecil Franklin, sisters Carolyn and Erma Franklin and nephew Thomas ­Garrett at Detroit’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

The funeral will feature performances by Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Ronald Isley, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Faith Hill, Fantasia and Yolanda Adams, with Bill Clinton, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Clive Davis, Smokey Robinson, Cicely Tyson, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder all set to speak. While Barack and Michelle Obama won't be at the funeral, the former First Couple  e did send a letter, which will be read by Rev. Al Sharpton  during the service.

According to TMZ, performances at the funeral will include:

  • "Amazing Grace" - Jennifer Hudson 
  • "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" - Faith Hill
  • "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman" - Ariana Grande
  • "The Lord's Prayer" - Stevie Wonder
  •  "Precious Lord" - Fantasia Barrino

The funeral will be broadcast live on several Detroit TV stations, with CNN and Fox News also airing portions of the service. In addition, the complete service will be live-streamed via the Associated Press. See the official program HERE.

  • ONE MORE THING! Aretha had yet another outfit change for her viewing yesterday at  the New Bethel Baptist Church. This time she was dressed in a lacy, rose gold gown by St. John's, along with a pair of gold Christian Louboutin heels.
