As is customary these days following the death of an artist, fans were quick to want to listen to Aretha Franklin’s music, vaulting her tunes straight up the chart. But this was really fast. Over on iTunes, Aretha’s classic track “Respect” quickly became the number one single, while her “30 Greatest Hits,” became the number one album.
In addition to “Respect,” three other songs jumped to the Top Ten, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” which is at two, “I Say A Little Prayer” at four and “Chain of Fools" at 10. Other songs climbing the iTunes chart include “Think” (14), “Until You Come Back To Me” (24), and “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)” (36).
Fans are also flocking to her videos. The clip for her George Michaelduet “I Knew You Were Waiting For Me” has jumped to two.
Franklin's music also shot up the Spotify charts, with the streaming service saying her music has been played 5,500% more today than just last week. The most popular tunes being played are "Respect," "Say A Little Prayer" and "Think."
- ONE MORE THING! Oprah's OWN channel will pay tribute to Aretha tomorrow by replaying a 1999 interview she did on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." "Remembering Aretha Franklin: The Oprah Interview" airs Saturday at 8:00 pm.
- And...Famous buildings in Aretha's hometown of Detroit have all paid tribute to her. The Fox Theatre, Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena, are all displaying "Forever Our Queen" on their marquees, while the Fillmore Detroit and the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts posted messages on their marquees as well.
