Wouldn’t it be amazing to hear early recordings of Queen when they first started out? Well, that may happen one day because in a new interview Brian May says he recently uncovered a tape of one of their early shows at London’s Imperial college.
“We're always looking at finding stuff that is historically important,” he tells “Classic Rock” magazine, noting that he’s “excited” by the recent find, which features, “one of the first gigs we played in a lecture theatre at Imperial College.” Brian adds, “Hearing Freddie (Mercury) at that point in his development is fascinating. He had all the will and charisma and passion, but he didn't have the opportunity to harness that voice yet.”
As for what Brian plans to do with it, he says they are “debating” about that. “A few years ago we'd have felt very protective and thought, ‘Nobody should hear this, because we’re very rough,’” he says. “But now, in the position that we are in our lives, we feel forgiving. We're not ashamed of where we were at that time. It was us against the world.”
