Millions of kids in the U.S. participate in organized sports and activities, and being involved in them comes with benefits including better grades and a lower risk of drug and alcohol abuse. And according to new research, dads play a huge part in their children’s success with those sports and activities.
A new “Dads Impact Report” from eTeamSponsor reveals just how crucial fathers’ contributions are for their kids’ involvement.
- Dads dedicate an average of five and a half hours a week to supporting their kids’ extracurricular activities, with 15% spending 10 or more hours a week on them.
- Just over a quarter of dads (28%) say they’ve woken up at 4 a.m. or earlier to go to a kid’s sporting event or activity.
- But they’re not just spending time, they’re spending money, too. Dads say they spend an average of $65-hundred a year on their kids’ sports and activities, with 13% spending more than $10-thousand a year.
- Kids participate in an average of 3 organized sports or activities per year, which keeps their dads busy.
- Thankfully, 70% of dads say their children used fundraising to help cover costs for their team, club or activity. Carwashes (24%), digital fundraising platforms (19%) and even good old bake sales (19%) are considered to be most effective, according to dads.
