“Different Strokes” singer Sly Johnson dies: Sly Johnson, best known for his 1967 classic “Different Strokes” died Sunday at the age of 85. No cause of death has been revealed. “Different Stones” has been sampled for a whole host of songs including Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” Wu-Tang Clan’s “Shame on a N***a,” Eric B. & Rakim’s “I Know You Got Soul,” De La Soul’s “The Magic Number” and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “The Joy,” featuring the late Curtis Mayfield. Johnson’s music has reportedly been sampled more than 300 times.
