Elton John was honored yesterday by Prince Charles during an Investiture Ceremony at Windsor Castle in England.
The singer was made a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour, a special award given to those who have “made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine or government lasting over a period of time.” It is one of the highest honors to bestowed to British citizens by Queen Elizabeth.
A maximum of only 65 people are allowed to have the honor at one time. Previous members include Maggie Smith, Stephen Hawking and Paul McCartney.
“An incredible honour to be made a member of the Order of Companions of Honour today in acknowledgement of my services to music and the fight to end AIDS through @ejaf," Elton shared on Instagram. "Thank you to the Prince of Wales and @clarencehouse for your recognition and support."
- Meanwhile, Elton was photographed walking with a cane as he received his honor, which has made some people in the industry question why he plans to relaunch his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in January. As we told you, back in September, Elton delayed the tour so he could have hip surgery, and some folks are wondering if he’s risking his health.
- “He is not Superman. I wonder how he’s even getting insurance to do these gigs — can you imagine the premiums?” one musician pal of Elton’s tells the “New York Post.” “He should be at home with his kids and his husband, not stuck on the road. I worry that he won’t finish this tour.” Another adds, “Why, why, why does Elton feel that he has to do this at this age?” adding,“There is only one reason: cash.”
- Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour kicks off January 19th in New Orleans.
