On February 4th, the GRAMMY Awards will broadcast the music industry’s highest honors out across the globe. But the night before, the Special Merit Awards will feature this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winners.
And over the weekend, The Recording Academy released their list of musicians, artists and acts that would be named for the high honor. R&B, gospel and pop singer Gladys Knight, rap pioneers N.W.A., disco queen Donna Summer, country star Tammy Wynette, gospel group The Clark Sisters and writer/musician Laurie Anderson have been tabbed to take home the career prizes.
“The Academy is honored to pay tribute to this year’s Special Merit Award recipients,” said Harvey Mason, Jr. “A remarkable group of creators and industry professionals whose impact resonates with generations worldwide.” The ceremony will take place at the Wilshire Bell Theatre in Los Angeles and kick off “Music’s Biggest Week.”
