The public service sorority paid their final respects to the singer Tuesday night after fans had left, sending her off with an Omega Omega ceremony, which is a final rite given to deceased members.
Close to one thousand sorority members gathered dressed in black and formed a semi-circle around a group of Franklin’s family and friends in a symbolic embrace. Sorority leaders then entered in ceremonial red and white robes and conducted a ceremony, which included poems, Bible verses, a song from Detroit member Yolanda Day and a eulogy by U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence.
The ceremony is a long tradition with the group, and is considered "a final act of loyal sisterhood."
- Meanwhile, on day two of Aretha's public viewing, the singer had an outfit change, this time wearing a powder blue sparkly dress with open-toed silver sparkling shoes. She will reportedly have yet another outfit change for her funeral tomorrow.
- ONE MORE THING! The future of Aretha’s childhood home in Tennessee is currently up in the air. A judge has now given the city of Memphis, the current homeowner and the receiver in charge of overseeing the property until October 12th to come up with a plan to restore the run down home. The vacant home had previously been ordered to be demolished but a judge put a hold on that back in June, 2016.
