We heard from Jeff Beck recently that he and Johnny Depp would be releasing an album, and now we have more details. The album is called “18,” inspired by the “youthful spirit and creativity” that the two say came over them when they partnered up.
The 13-track album has mostly covers on it, including The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” the Velvet Underground song “Venus in Furs,” John Lennon’s “Isolation,” and two Depp originals; “Sad Motherf***in’ Parade” and “This Is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr.”
Beck says he’s blown away by that last track and says it’s “one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me,” adding “I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock and roll.”
The new album is due out on July 15th.
