Lindsey Buckingham is reflecting on getting booted from Fleetwood Mac. Appearing on Marc Maron’s podcast, Lindsey says his firing hurt the band’s legacy.

Lindsey was fired from the band back in 2018, replaced by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell and Crowded House’s Neil Finn. Lindsey and Stevie Nicks clashed over the extra time Lindsey wanted to take off from the band for his solo career… but Lindsey thinks “an extra three months” is nothing compared to the 43-year legacy he built with the band.

“We spent 43 years building this legacy which was about rising above things – it stood for more than the music,” he adds. “And by allowing this to happen through some levels of weakness – my own weakness included – I think we did some harm to that legacy. And that’s a shame.”
