Prince may soon be getting his very own highway in Minnesota. Two state legislators, Sen. Julia Coleman and Rep. Greg Boe, are planning to introduce bills, which would call for a section of Hwy 5 to be renamed Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway.

The section of the highway would run trough Chanhassen, the area both legislators represent.  “He is a favorite son on this side of the metro," Boe said. "Chanhassen is proud to have him in the community. There are a lot of fans of his music."

Longtime Prince friend Mark Webster wants to see seven miles of the highway named in the late artist’s honor but there is one possible hitch to the plan.

A portion of Hwy 5 in that area is already named "Augie Mueller Memorial Highway" in honor of the former state senator, and the MnDOT requires memorial designations be only on sections not already named. That means should the new bill pass, Mueller’s portion of the highway would have to be shortened or altered. Webster is hoping that since Mueller’s portion is 50-miles long the family would be willing to give up a portion so they can honor Prince.
