Graeme Edge, cofounding drummer of The Moody Blues, has passed at 80 years old. The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer’s family has confirmed the sad news, although the cause of death hasn’t been revealed.

“'When the White Eagle of the North is flying overhead' … sadly Graeme left us today," the band's John Lodge writes on Twitter. "To me he was the White Eagle of the North with his beautiful poetry, his friendship, his love of life and his 'unique' style of drumming that was the engine room of the Moody Blues."

Born in 1941, Edge was part of the band’s original lineup alongside Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder, Denny Laine, and Clint Warwick – and the only founding member continuously in the band since the mid 60s. He was a key part of their shift to a more prog rock song as they put out their 1967 album “Days of Future Passed.” He retired from touring in 2018. May he rest in peace.
