Nile Rodgers is doing a little decluttering for a good cause. The Chic founder is auctioning off a slew of his instruments, including 160 guitars, with proceeds going to his We Are Family Foundation, which Nile says “supports kids all over the world who are working on solutions to make this a better planet.”
Guitars up for auction include ones he used to play on Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family,” Chic’s “Le Freak,” David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and more. The Christie’s auction, taking place December 16th in New York City, will also feature some of Nile’s cars and clothing.
Nile admits that picking guitars to auction off was “very difficult, noting “I would pick one up, remember the song that I played on it, and then get really emotional.”
