In what those who’ve been following news in the music industry might see as a surprising reversal of the current popular trend, Rod Stewart is taking a stand. Recently we’ve brought you stories (both confirmed and rumored) about multiple A-listers selling off their catalog for major bucks.

But not the “Maggie May” icon. At least not now. Stewart has backed out of a sale of his catalog after two years of negotiations with Hipgnosis. “This catalog represents my life’s work,” said Stewart. “And it’s became abundantly clear after much time and due diligence that this was not the right company to manage my song catalog, career or legacy.”

As of this writing, Hipgnosis hasn’t commented. Some say Stewart’s statement might be a ploy to drive up the price of his sale. But others have pointed out that a star that has released such mega-hits as “Tonight’s The Night,” “All For Love,” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” and “Forever Young” doesn’t need to resort to those measures.
