Sarah Dash has died. The 76-year-old singer best known for being one-third of LaBelle passed away suddenly yesterday. At this point, no cause of death was given.

Patti LaBelle released a statement via Twitter. “We were just on-stage together on Saturday, and it was such a powerful and special moment,” she said. “Sarah Dash was an awesomely talented, beautiful, and loving soul who blessed my life and the lives of so many others in more ways than I can say.”

During the 1970s, Labelle – which consisted of Sarah, Patti, and Nona Hendryx – became a truly pioneering act, combining elements of rock, funk and R&B to their music, and created politically and sexually charged songs. True success finally came in 1974 when “Lady Marmalade” hit the top of the charts.
