Sir Elton Is 2020’s Global Citizen

Sir Elton John is among the honorees of this year’s round of Global Citizen Prize Awards, recognizing leaders and activists around the world “making extraordinary efforts for the world’s most vulnerable.” Elton has been chosen as 2020’s Global Citizen Artist of the Year.
Rocketman is being honored for using his platform to work towards ending the AIDS epidemic, raising funds through his Elton John AIDS Foundation to help those affected by coronavirus as well. He follows Sting, who received the honor last year for his work on rainforest protection.
Elton will be presented at the upcoming, star-studded The Global Citizen Prize Awards, hosted by John Legend and featuring performances by Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, Common and more. The event airs on Saturday, December 19th at 8pm ET on NBC.
