The totals are in, and the Rolling Stones and Elton John sold more than a half-billion dollars worth of concert tickets in 2022. Sir Elton’s 85 dates on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour earned over $334M, making it the second-highest grossing tour of the year according to Billboard’s 2022 Top Tours chart, second only to Bad Bunny.
The Stones landed in sixth place on the chart with a gross of over $179M, which is incredible once you find out they only played 20 shows in 2022. Four other rock tours topped the $100M mark; the Red Hot Chili Peppers with $176M, the Def Leppard/Motley Crue co-headlining tour with $173M, Paul McCartney with $105M from 16 shows, and the Eagles with $104M.
