Don Wilson, founder and guitarist for the surf-rock group The Ventures, died Saturday from natural causes. He was 88.
"Don was an inspiration and mentor. He was a unique talent that inspired countless musicians like us," read a statement posted to the band's social media pages. "We lost a good friend, fellow musician, world class performer, and beloved bandmate. Don Wilson has left the stage. We will miss him always."
Don was the last surviving member of The Ventures, which he founded with Bob Bogle in Seattle in the late 1950s. Bassist/guitarist Nokkie Edwards joined them after. Bogle died in 2009 and Edwards in 2018. They are probably best know for their 1960s hits “Walk, Don’t Run” and the theme to “Hawaii Five-O.”
