In the wake of the deadly wildfires that devastated the community of Lahaina on the island of Maui, businesses have been looking for ways to support the recovery effort. Yesterday, rideshare company Uber announced a series of initiatives to help those affected by the wildfires.

In a post to their Uber Newsroom and on social media, they’ve pledged to give $500-thousand to the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. Additionally, they’ve added a button to their app to make it easy for Uber and Uber Eats customers to make donations to the organization. They’re also going to match the first $500-thousand of those donations for a total of $1-million to the Hawai’i Community Foundation.

To directly support people affected by the wildfire, the rideshare company says they’re giving free rides to the shelter at the Hawaii Convention Center for evacuees and promises to “continue to look for ways to help.” They’ve also pledged to financially support active Uber drivers in Lahaina and plan to continue doing so as the recovery effort continues. They end their message writing that their team is committed to helping and add that, “Together, we can help rebuild and restore the Maui community.”
