Public school music programs just got a big boost from Wolfgang Van Halen. The son of late guitar legend Eddie Van Halen has donated $100-thousand to kickstart a special campaign that helps public schools buy instruments for their music programs.

He’s teaming up with the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which his father was a dedicated supporter of, to launch the Adopt a School campaign. It connects schools across the country in need of musical instruments with donors who want to lend a hand in a community of their choice. Music programs are often the first to go when school districts face budget cuts, but Van Halen’s donation will bring the Adopt a School campaign to 100 schools nationwide.

“Music has been a huge part of my life, and it is our family’s great pleasure to help support music education programs and bring the gift of music to students across the country,” Wolfgang Van Halen says. “Music education has proven to be a huge contributor toward a student’s success in school, and in life.”
