Alan White, drummer for the rock band Yes, has passed away at the age of 72.

"Alan White, our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away at the age of 72 at his Seattle-area home on May 26, 2022, after a brief illness,” his wife Gigi announced on social media. "Throughout his life and six-decade career, Alan was many things to many people: a certified rock star to fans around the world; band mate to a select few, and gentleman and friend to all who met him.”

White joined Yes in 2015 after drummer Chris Squire’s passing and has been the band’s longest continuously serving band member.

In 1969, John Lennon called him to join the Plastic Ono Band on tour, and was featured on their “Live Peace in Toronto” album. He also appeared on Lennon’s Instant Karma” single, and his “Imagine” album, providing drums on the title song. He also appeared on George Harrison’s solo album “All Things Must Pass,” including the classic song “My Sweet Lord.”

In a post on Instagram, Yes said they were “shocked and stunned” by White’s death, noting he had been looking forward to their upcoming UK tour. They add, “YES will dedicate their 50th Anniversary Close to the Edge UK Tour in June to White.”
