ZZ Top says there’s some bootleg merchandise going around online. The band has warned fans about counterfeiters trying to “cash in” on the death of co-founding bassist Dusty Hill.
In the weeks since ZZ Top resumed their 50th anniversary tour per Dusty’s wishes, the band says they’ve seen online retailers advertising merch celebrating the late bassist. The merch usually reads “RIP Dusty” or something similar, but the band says they have nothing to do with it, and any proceeds from the unauthorized merch isn’t going to the band, Dusty’s estate, or any causes they support.
“Please be aware that neither the band nor Dusty has approved the sale of any merchandise or promotions connected to Dusty,” ZZ Top says in a statement. “It is sad and unfortunate that many people are trying to ‘cash in’ on Dusty’s untimely death. Please know that no monies generated by these bogus goods are paid to the band or to Dusty’s family.”
